STEINER JUNIOR TEAMS VICTORIOUS AGAIN AT WORLD SERIES OF BIRDING 2009
CAPE MAY, NJ --- Both Steiner youth teams swept the two youth divisions at the annual World Series of Birding in Cape May, NJ on May 10, 2009:
Division A (Grade 1-5, score based on highest number total species) – 117 species
Steiner Merlins sponsored by Steiner Binoculars: Captain Brett Mallon, Andi Hilton, Chuckie Lansinger IV, Danny Lenchner, Alyssa Walls
Division B (Grade 6-8, score based on highest number total species) – 158 species
Steiner Peregrines sponsored by Steiner Binoculars: Captain Michelle Long, Kelley Jewell, Tabitha Lansinger, Kiley Pignataro, Shannon Pignataro
This year marks the 26th WSB, started initially by Pete Dunne, NJ Audubon and the late Roger Tory Peterson, famed author, artist and ornithologists. In order to compete, teams must enter, identify birds within the State of New Jersey or selected portions of the state. All members must record their findings within a 24 hour period starting at Twelve midnight Friday through the following midnight.
The cumulative species total for the 2009 event was 269. Since its inception, the World Series of Birding has generated over $8,000,000 for bird conservation.
